Blue Monster Entertainment

So a friend of mine asked me to do a logo for his recording studio...I'm in the brainstorming stage right now but I am super stoked to work on this project. Thoughts?

clothes rack

Due to the fact that my wife has a shitload normal amount of clothes for a girl I figured if I wanted to get any closet space I was going to have to get her a clothes rack...buying one is totally out of the question since...why buy what you can make right? Inspired by this design sponge DIY-er...I set out to make a clothes rack.

In the end I guess you could say that I got a little carried away...this project actually cost a lot more than I've ever spent on a project...but it was definitely worth it.

business card giveaway winner!

Okay so I couldn't bring myself to choose a favorite...because I'm afraid of picking one friend over another and then have travis get all mad cause he didn't win...so I had a "random line picker" choose for me...(screenshot below)

so...congrats henk...I guess you'll have to get them shipped to Alberts? Everyone else: sorry...better luck next time?

P.S. and henk didn't win just because it was his birthday...happy birthday henk, I wish we were in Winnipeg getting hammered in a haunted hotel together.

my new desk

I found this wood in an alley, I think they used to be rafters. For now I'm using legs that I took from a $5 garage sale table...but I hate them because I'm constantly hitting my knees on them...going to have to find a solution...soon.

p.s. please comment on the post below...I don't want to choose between travis and henk...does nobody else need business cards? come on!

Die cut business card giveaway

If you're in the market for some new business cards like I am...you should check out uprinting's business card page it is pretty legit, and uprinting is fairly affordable. I actually have a newfound appreciation for uprinting because since I graduated I have gotten a few projects printed by local printers...just because I thought it would be easier than getting it done online and if there was a mistake in the job then I could get it fixed easily. I was so wrong. I got some thank-you cards printed locally...first of all they printed on the wrong stock. AND there was banding and the color was very spotty. Needless to say I asked them to reprint it on the correct stock...to make a long story short I ended up making 4 different trips over the span of a week and in the end I wasn't even close to satisfied with the end result. On the flip side, Uprinting has never done me wrong and in the long run it would have been way easier and cheaper for me to have them print and ship it to me than for me to try to give my business to the "little man"...that's my rant for the day. Oh yeah, this is actually a giveaway, and for those of you who actually stayed long enough to read my rant you get rewarded...all you have to do is leave a comment with your business card design on them and I will choose the best one. Or if they're all super good - which I doubt they will be - then I'll use a random picker..anyway here are the deets:

250 Die Cut Business Cards for One (1) Winner
2 x 3.5”, 2 x 2” (square card) or 1.75 x 3.5” (slim card)
Die cutting options available: Rounded Corners, Leaf, Rounded One-Corner, Half-Circle Side, Circle

For hosting this giveaway I will also be receiving 250 die-cut business cards from Uprinting.com...I'm pretty stoked on that as I have been thinking about designing a new one for myself.

Murv poster

so I was at the Murv this weekend and drank a bunch of beer...anyway I went to the bathroom and found this lovely example of design:

I think my favorite part about this flier, besides the fact that they used papyrus, there are also 3 other typefaces and at least twice as many colors. So I drew this:

and then last night I made this:

April Giveaway!

UPDATE:

Congratulations to the winner, Christina! The winner was chosen totally at random (or at least as random as the "random name picker" from classtools.net could be), I entered all three names in and only chose once so...here is proof:

Be sure to enter your name in my next giveaway...from the way things have been going you will probably have at least a 25% chance to win...maybe. I better check that math.

DigitalRoom.com is letting me give away 250 stickers/labels and I get to decide who gets them! (Well actually a random name picker will decide)

Anyway these stickers (or labels) are pretty legit, you can get them in 3 different sizes (2x3.5, 2x4, 3x3) and they are on 70lb matte coated paper. They are full color front, and obviously blank on the back...

So if you were needing labels (or stickers) for work, a party, organizing, or you just want to have 250 stickers with your name on them...then just leave a comment saying what you would use the stickers for. If you don't know what to do with 250 stickers, then steal someone else's idea...

This giveaway ends on April 28th so...get those comments in...

Other details:
Specification: 6 Business Days Turnaround

Shipping: FREE UPS Ground Shipping

Eligibility: Limited to US Residents only (Sorry Canada). Must be 18 years old and up (Sorry minors).

latest letterpress creation

a friend of mine needed a business card to display with some paintings he has hung up on the walls of the Fruited Plain...
